Welcome to Morton, Illinois, the Pumpkin Capital of the World!
Morton is an affluent, growing community of 17,000 located at the crossroads of Interstate 74 and Interstate 155 on the outskirts of Peoria in Central Illinois. Home to a wide variety of employers including Caterpillar Logistics, Pepsi, Morton Buildings, and Nestle, the community has seen steady growth in residential, industrial, and retail development over the past decade.
CEFCU recently pledged $50,000 in support of the new Morton Downtown Plaza project. Their donation will go to support the Veterans Memorial.
“CEFCU is proud to support Morton with this gift to dedicate the Veterans Memorial in the new Morton Downtown Plaza,” said Mark Spenny, CEFCU President and CEO. “CEFCU has been providing financial services to Morton residents for many years, and has had a Member Center in Morton since 1994. To provide the funds to establish the Veterans Memorial, and be able to recognize those individuals who have done so much to preserve our freedoms, is an honor for the Credit Union.”
In 2013, Morton was recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Towns by Family Circle Magazine. The high achievement and special programs in our local schools, very low crime rate, and community involvement in charitable giving were all factors in the selection of Morton for this national recognition.
Let's Build Our Plaza
The Morton Downtown Plaza is a new gathering space planned for a vacant parcel on Main Street in the heart of our downtown. The plans include shaded seating areas, a Veterans Memorial, water fountain, children's play areas, and public restrooms. The Village of Morton has pledged $1 M for this project and challenged the community to raise the matching $1 M by December 31, 2014. If the fund raising is successful, the Plaza will open to the public in the summer of 2016. Join the campaign and Let's Build Our Plaza!
