Welcome to Morton, Illinois, the Pumpkin Capital of the World!
Morton is an affluent, growing community of 17,000 located at the crossroads of Interstate 74 and Interstate 155 on the outskirts of Peoria in Central Illinois. Home to a wide variety of employers including Caterpillar Logistics, Pepsi, Morton Buildings, and Nestle, the community has seen steady growth in residential, industrial, and retail development over the past decade.
The Morton Economic Development Council recently announced that Caterpillar Inc. has pledged $100,000 in support of the new Morton Downtown Plaza. The donation will go to support the water fountain feature, a centerpiece for the project.
“We believe a vibrant downtown can spur economic development for the community, and the Morton Downtown Plaza is an example of a project that can help beautify the area and drive visitors,” said Henry Vicary, Caterpillar’s Community Relations Manager.
The Morton Downtown Plaza is a new gathering space planned for a vacant parcel on Main Street in the heart of our downtown. The plans include shaded seating areas, a Veterans Memorial, water fountain, children's play areas, and public restrooms. The Village of Morton has pledged $1 M for this project and challenged the community to raise the matching $1 M by December 31, 2014. If the fund raising is successful, the Plaza will open to the public in the summer of 2016. Join the campaign and Let's Build Our Plaza!
Sam Leman Automotive broke ground on their new building, located on Courtland Avenue next to the new Farm & Fleet, on Thursday, July 10th in Morton, Illinois. "Our decision to build a new building was primarily the result of Sam Leman's belief that Morton will continue to support our business and the new location on Courtland will be easier for our loyal customers outside of Morton to access," said Todd Braker, COO for Sam Leman Automotive.
