The SafeWise Report ranked Morton as one of the 50 Safest Cities in Illinois for 2017! To identify the safest cities in Illinois, they reviewed the 2015 FBI Crime Report statistics and population data. Morton ranked #41

Morton Library in Top 4% Nationwide
The 2010 Edition of Hennen's America Public Library Ratings (HAPLR) rated the Morton Public Library in the top 4% of libraries in our category in the United States! 

Top 10 Best Place to Live
Morton was recently recognized by greatschools.org as one of the top ten cities in the nation to live in for great schools and moderate housing prices.

#1 High School in Tri-County Area
Morton High School Ranked #1 among the high schools in the Tri-County Area based on their 2009 PSAE Scores.  Morton's Lincoln Elementary was ranked second in the Tri-County Area, beat out only by Washington Gifted, based on their ISAT Scores.

CNN Best Cities to Start A New Business
In October of 2009, Peoria was ranked as the 5th best city to start a new business by CNN.

Milken Institute Index of Best Cities in America
Peoria jumped from #68 to #42 on the Milken Institute index of best cities in America for 2008. The Best-Performing Cities index measures U.S. metropolitan areas to find the most successful at job creation and retention, the quality of jobs being produced, and overall economic performance.

INC. Magazine’s Best Cities to do Business
Peoria also jumped 46 spots, up from #67 to #21, on Inc. Magazine’s 2008 Best Cities to do Business for Midsize Cities, and ranked #83 in Overall Cities, up 125 spots from #208 last year.

US News and World Report Bronze Medal Winner
Morton High School was named a Bronze Medal Winner by US News and World Report in December of 2008.  This award is based on standardized test performance, proficiency rates of all students, and a challenging, college-ready curriculum. 

Chicago Sun Times Top Schools
Morton High School was named as of of the top 50 high schools in the state of Illinois in 2007 and 2008 by the Chicago Sun Times newspaper.  They ranked 31st in 2008 on that list.

Morton Public Works Recognition
The Morton Public Works Department has been widely recognized for their outstanding projects and leadership at both the state and national level.  The department was first recognized by the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators, receiving their Plant of the Year Award in 1997.  That same year, they won the American City and County's Gold Medal Government Award of Merit for a storm water project.  The department went on to receive the American Public Works Association (APWA) Project of the Year Award in 2004 and 2005.  Public Works Director Bob Wraight, was also recognized by the APWA, receiving their Engineer of the Year Award in 2001 and then later named to their Top 10 Directors of Public Works in the Country.
