Wii Competition Planned for June
The Morton Economic Development Council announced today that they will be hosting SHOWDOWN, a Wii Gaming Competition for Central Illinois, on Saturday, June 13th at Jefferson Elementary School in Morton. The event will feature a tournament style competition of four popular Nintendo® Wii games and is geared towards children and adults of all ages, including three youth age categories and one adult category. “We wanted to host an event that would be family friendly, tourism oriented, and technology driven,” said John Feser, Principal at The Iona Group and Chairperson for the tournament. “We think this type of tournament has all of those features and a great deal of growth potential for the future.”
The competition will be held at Jefferson Elementary School in Morton’s downtown. “We wanted a location that encouraged people to shop and eat at our local businesses between games,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC. “The downtown also has available parking and a playground for added kid entertainment.”
Deciding which games to select for the event wasn’t easy for the committee. “We reviewed dozens of games before selecting the four that we will offer this year,” said Feser. “Mario Kart, Mario Super Sluggers, Guitar Hero, and Dance Dance Revolution.” Prizes will be awarded to each age category for each game.
To register for SHOWDOWN, go to www.showdowncentralillinois.org beginning May 6th. “We can only take 744 registrations for the entire tournament this year due to space limitations,” said Feser. “When you begin looking at the popularity of Wii and the number of people in our area, it makes you realize that our tournament might be filled extremely quickly.”
